oh my god i just realized, king would’ve watched eda age rapidly and sometimes get weak out of nowhere and have to live on the run, and for the longest time he would’ve just assumed that’s what her kind is like because he had no frame of reference and she wasn’t gonna tell him any different because she didn’t want to talk about it (or scare him, especially since he was literally a child).
like we already knew he wrongly assumed the elixir she used to ward off the curse was giving her magic. he probably just thought all witches’ hair goes white early, and all witches have to spend bucketloads of money to get a daily elixir in order to function normally, and it’s totally normal to spend your weekends stealing stuff, selling it, and suddenly having to close down shop when the cops show up.
for that matter, how long do you think it was before he realized not all houses come with a hooty?
